Global demand for plastics processing machinery is projected to rise 6.0 percent annually through 2015 to $28.9 billion, a rebound from market declines experienced during the recession-impacted 2005-2010 period. Sales growth will be driven by an acceleration in plastic product manufacturing, as well as by a favorable fixed investment environment worldwide.

Many nations are building up their plastics manufacturing infrastructure, due to both rising domestic demand for plastics-consuming goods and export opportunities to developed nations. These and other trends are presented in World Plastics Processing Machinery, a new study from The Freedonia Group, Inc., a Cleveland-based industry market research firm.

Gains in developing nations will be the driving force behind advances in the global market for plastics processing equipment. China, for example, will account for over 40 percent of all additional global demand through 2015, with growth stimulated by strong increases in plastic manufacturing as industrialization efforts continue and income levels rise. Other nations in Asia with smaller, less-developed economies, such as India, Vietnam and Thailand, will also record healthy market gains. In developed areas of the world, most notably the US, Western Europe and Japan, demand will rebound after a period of decline, although sales advances will not be as strong as those in developing nations.

Among major product types, extrusion equipment will post the strongest gains through 2015, benefiting from growth in global construction spending, which will fuel demand for extruded goods like pipe and siding. Injection molding equipment will remain the largest product segment, accounting for 40 percent of demand in 2015.

The construction market will post the strongest gains through 2015, benefiting from an acceleration in global construction spending. The consumer/institutional products market will also post solid gains, reflecting rising standards of living. The packaging market will post respectable gains due to rising manufacturing output and consumer demand for packaged products. In addition, plastic will continue to gain market share from other materials in applications such as bottles.

They are semi or fully automatic with different output and speed features, making them unique and marketable to differing buyers. Rubber machines such as rubber extruders, molders, cutters, compounders or vulcanizers are in high demand. They are easy to install, rust proof, exclusively designed and highly versatile. They are used in tire, shoe, conveyor belting, automotive, defense, mining, medical, custom mixing, floor tile, roofing and general rubber goods industries.

Rubber Compounding Machine

These machines are vital in the process of rubber products. They process many raw materials into uniform rubber compounds. The compounding machines mix raw rubber with protective agents, vulcanizing ingredients and fillers in a mixer. Proper mixing produces a specified rubber product. Rubber compounding machines have features such as overload prevention, a control system, emergency stop, drive system, complete mixing room systems, internal mixers and a dump extruder. These machines produce rubber products used in automobiles, foot wear and wire and cable.

Rubber Calendar Machine

Rubber calendar machines skim coat, friction and sheet rubber products. These machines vary in size due to what product they are processing and how much of it they process. These machines contain two to five rolls in different arrangements and inclinations to meet their varied purposes. The machines ensure uniform coating and uniform thickness of rubber sheets. They produce automobile tires, footwear rubber sheets and PVC floor tiles

Rubber Stamp Machine

Rubber stamp machines are new technology that has changed traditional stamp making. The machine is used to make pre-inking stamps bearing signatures, logos and pictures. They are important for everyday work. They eliminate the need for old and messy ink stamps. They produce stamps of many colors and sizes. They can also number, date and letter documents.

Rubber Mixing Machine

Rubber mixing mills create uniform blending of natural and synthetic rubber with other raw materials. Most rubber mixers are electronically driven, and the output depends on the size and specifications of the machine and the material being processed. Various types of machines have varying purposes, such as the processing of rubber materials, mixing rubber, sheeting rubber, plasticizing and warming rubber and uniform mixing and blending of raw materials.

Rubber Sole Machine

Rubber sole machines are important in the shoe manufacturing businesses. They punch, cut and finish natural or synthetic rubber in different shapes and sizes. The machine also has collectors that collect scrap and prevents it from piling up. The machine has a unique design system with steady function, easy operation and maintenance. It needs minimum manual assistance and is driven by an air compressor. It is capable of creating a high and uniform quality of sole.

The European plastics and rubber machinery industry achieved remarkable rates of growth in 2010 and 2011 and is on course to match the 2008 record.

“Our industry recovered very well from the economic and financial crisis in the countries associated with EUROMAP; this year’s production volume in the core machinery business is expected to reach almost 11 billion Euro,” said Bernhard Merki, the European federation’s newly re-elected President at the press conference, held on the occasion of the triennial General Assembly.

Sharp industry-wide increase in orders

“The three-year period between the previous and this year’s assembly was undoubtedly one of the most turbulent since EUROMAP was founded in 1964. The industry was hit by a downturn, the full force of which could not have been predicted when we last met. But the months that followed taught us a number of lessons. In late 2009, orders started to pick up again – albeit from a very low level – and this upswing continued during the whole of 2010 and well into 2011. Looking at new incoming order curves between 2008 and 2011 highlights just how much of a roller coaster ride this has been”, explained Bernhard Merki.

China takes output lead – Japan back again

Rates of growth as regards global output and exports of plastics and rubber machinery were even higher. The increase was mainly attributable to Chinese manufacturers setting the pace in terms of output. Japanese competitors, which had been badly hit in 2009, emerged from the crisis very quickly and in surprisingly good shape. The upswing in Asia’s industry and emerging economies caused EUROMAP’s share in global output and exports to fall back slightly.

Sustainability creates business opportunities

EUROMAP’s newly confirmed Vice-President, Luciano Anceschi, highlighted another aspect which may become a real asset for machinery manufacturers in Europe. “There is a genuine global trend towards more sustainability. Saving energy as well as protecting resources is playing an increasingly important and pivotal role not only in Europe but in all major economic areas across the world. In order to help its industry meet the demands from all parties involved, EUROMAP supports the manufacturers in the member countries with studies and recommendations. Being prepared may just give our industry the edge.”

The Plain Packs Protect campaign has recently been launched in the north east by health campaigners Fresh, aimed at reducing the number of child smokers who are attracted to glitzy packaging.

According to the group, the average age most smokers in the north east start smoking is 15 years old, but some start at just nine years old.

‘Silent salesman’

Fresh believes eye-catching and increasingly innovative packs of cigarettes can act as ‘silent salesmen’.

Plain Packs Protect is supported by Fresh, Action for Smoking and Health (ASH), Cancer Research UK and the British Heart Foundation.

Smoking is still the north east’s biggest killer, claiming the lives of 11 people a day, according to Fresh.

The government is due to launch a three-month public consultation this spring on whether the UK should adopt the plain, standardised packaging of tobacco products to protect children from tobacco promotion.

Fresh director Ailsa Rutter said: “We want people to support the introduction of plain, standardised packaging for tobacco products as a measure to prevent children and vulnerable young people from taking up smoking, and a lifetime of addiction, through an attraction to these brands.”

Cancer Research UK tobacco control manager Robin Hewings told PN: “Tobacco is uniquely dangerous and requires uniquely firm action, which is why TV advertising of cigarettes has been banned since 1965.

“People generally get addicted to tobacco in their teens and if they carry on smoking it will kill half of them.

“We congratulate the government for their commitment to tackling tobacco and look forward to thousands of Cancer Research UK supporters and researchers making their voices heard.

“We expect the tobacco industry and their front groups to run a massive campaign to fight plain packaging – it is the tobacco policy they now fear most.”

Australia

Australia is the first country to introduce plain drab olive green packaging for tobacco products from December 2012. The plain packs will display only the name of the product brand and graphic health warnings.

Four tobacco giants – Phillip Morris, British American Tobacco Australia, Imperial Tobacco Australia and Japan Tobacco International – are challenging the laws in the High Court.

‘Hands off our packs’

The smoker’s lobby group Forest has recently launched a campaign to petition government against the plain packaging of tobacco.

The group has launched a website, Hands Off Our Packs, that gives opponents of plain packaging of tobacco the opportunity to petition the government when it begins a public consultation on plain packaging in the spring.

There are many plastics in the world today. They are made by the aid of various machines specialized to carry out specific functions like injecting. The machines used to process the PVC equipment are made in the plastic machinery manufacturers industries. These industries are world wide spread in the countries that can support the activity.

Some of the tasks that these companies do include: buying the machines. They buy these machines and modify them to make them available for their clients to either buy from them or rent them. They buy the equipments in whatever condition they are in and offer no considerations of the age of these equipments.

The other function they have is selling and leasing the machines to their customers. The new ones are more expensive than the used ones. At times, the client may request for one that is not in the company. The manufacturers will look for the needed machine from other companies and make it available for them. Shipping is also available in many companies.

Repairs, modification and maintenance may also be done on ones machine. These include doing test runs, gearbox refurbishments and control panel upgrading. They offer from simple repairs like painting to complex ones either in your company or in theirs.

While some of the manufacturers specialize in a specific line of machines, others have all kinds of machines in their inventory. There are those that have many branches and each branch deals with a specific type of machine. Others may export their products to as many retailers as possible depending on the results of their sales strategies.

Using the internet, one can locate the plastic machinery manufacturers for discussion or online shopping. Some of the things to consider before buying from a company is the availability of after sale services and warranties. Avoid buying from brokers if they are not well certified by the companies.

Lately, there have been various global issues doing the rounds even in the packaging industry. Experts recommend packaging companies to offer options for biodegradable packaging. The materials normally used may not be recyclable or environment friendly. Several packing companies are working towards creating biodegradable packaging solutions for clients.

Materials used for Packaging

Biodegradable plastics: special polymer substances and plastics based on eco-friendly raw materials are used. They can be mad made or obtained from micro organisms even. Synthetic polymers can be transformed efficiently into biodegradable substances for packing. Based on polypropylene or polyethylene, they are not totally biodegradable, though. Natural sources like protein and starch are also utilized. Hydrophilic synthetic polymer molecules are blended in with these natural products to give environment friendly plastics.

Plant sources: corn and other plant products are increasingly used to produce eco-friendly packaging material. A combination of acetic acid and hard castor oil is also used to produce biodegradable substances for packing. Cornstarch packing peanuts have been in the market for many years. Fiber packaging materials are also gaining popularity. Such substances are mostly thermo formable and compostable. Packing companies also resort to foams based on wheat flour.

Eco-pack: made from agricultural residues, this material is incredibly non toxic, lightweight, compact, economical, convenient packaging substance made from natural cellulose fibers. It needs 60 days for decomposing if landfill method is used. It can be embossed, sealed and handled easily. This is appropriate to store edible food items whether they are fatty, moist or dry foodstuffs. It can also be used as protective packing material for VCDs. Ideal for storing fluids and is microwaveable as well.

Machineries and Technologies Employed

Environment friendly substances are a major point of interest for packaging companies that want to attract clients. There are several machines and methodologies implemented by various packaging suppliers for biodegradable packaging.

Molding technology – specialized equipments are designed for the purpose of molding the biodegradable material into the desired shape after pre heating process.

Extrusion machinery – these are employed to obtain various environment-friendly substances from plant products or synthetic polymers. Lactide polymers are subjected to extrusion processing to produce thermally processed packaging items.

Biodegradable plasticizers – used to produce biodegradable plastics either from synthetic polymers or from natural sources. Partially crystalline polymers are difficult to process and require vegetable-oil based plasticizers as processing agents. Nanofillers are used to improve barrier properties.

Oakham-loacted injection moulder and tooling supplier Rutland Plastics has taken delivery of a new Engel Duo 1700 injection moulding machine, with a view to providing greater capacity and flexibility within the company’s larger machine group.

A key market for the firm is large and over 2010, it has seen consistent rising demand for capacity on its largest machines. Managing director Steve Ayre commented: “Buying this new machine demonstrates our commitment to invest in the latest technology so as to remain at the forefront of the UK market for large injection mouldings.”

The Duo series is Engel’s compact range of moulding machines. Apart from a smaller footprint, they are claimed to offer the capability to mould taller or longer parts than is currently possible with conventional machines. Shorter cycle times are attributed to high-speed cylinders and a rapid locking action. The machine also comes with Engel’s new Eco drives, for with energy savings comparable to those obtainable with all-electric machines are claimed. Extremely quiet operation is cited as a bonus for the workplace environment.

Rutland Plastics has just re-developed its factory site with an additional manufacturing bay and new offices, giving a total of 4000 square metres of extra floorspace.

Other recent investments have included a Microcut Challenger BNC1840 CNC lathe, primarily for the manufacture of small and mid-size electrofusion fittings, and a Mazak VTC300C-II vertical machining centre for producing large-bore electrofusion couplers and mould tools.

The business is now implementing an Epicor 9 enterprise resource planning (ERP) system which will replace current separate software packages, with a view to more efficient management of order processing and manufacturing.

In order to better deal with technical barriers to trade, to expand our international market share of presses, presses companies have carried out a number of CE, UL and other safety certification. However, because of the security certification do not understand, leading to certification and certification in the selection process there are many problems, and even fooled. As the only plastic machinery plastic machinery, a national testing agencies, and shoulder the heavy responsibility to guide development of the industry, the obligation is necessary to use the center of professional and technical capacity for the majority of press manufacturers introduce safety certification of knowledge, thus contributing to machine industry better to overcome the technical barriers to trade, increase international competitiveness. Given the current most enterprises are in dire need of the European safety certification CE safety certification, the following will serve as highlights.
CE is a French Conformitē Europēeme (European Conformity Assessment) of the abbreviation is unique to the mandatory European safety mark. Assess whether the EU market products based on circulation, is whether the product has been CE marked. Once the CE marking product, it indicates that the product complies with EU basic public safety, health, environmental and consumer protection requirements. The existing 27 EU member states: Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Spain, Estonia, France, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Finland, Sweden and the United Kingdom, and eager to join the EU in Turkey. Up to now, the EU issued a total of 22 instructions (instructions can be defined as European law, Member States of technical regulations above), the products involved are: electronic electrical products, machinery and equipment, simple pressure vessels, toys, building products, personal protective equipment, medical devices, gas appliances, pressure equipment. Plastics machinery by artificial loading and unloading of the plastic injection or compression molding machine because of its high degree of risk to be classified as dangerous machinery EU Machinery Directive, must be Notified Body (EU authority) inspection of products before the implementation of EC put the CE mark and sold in the EU use.
(A) self-declaration: is the company through their own test equipment, according to the relevant EU directives and standards for their products for testing and improving, and companies issued their own name to the certificate, while preparing the necessary technical documents and save up to the relevant European organizations see the future.
Summary: The self-declaration form to obtain CE certificate, certificate of easy, but the future enterprise is to assume great risk. For domestic production enterprises, to obtain a certificate of self-proclaimed effectiveness in the market is very low. Generally used only for low-risk products. Third-party certification (certification agency and the European Union authorized) certification of disadvantage: a certificate in the EU market, including customs do not recognize this certificate, that the validity of this certificate is also extremely low, in the future if the product quality problems resulting consequences, enterprises assume more responsibility, less responsibility without authority responsible.
(C) third-party certification (certification body authorized by the EU): that is authorized by the EU institutions (such as SGS, EVPU certification body), through them to test concurrency certificate, this model is the highest mode of CE certification, the certificate validity high, the EU regulations in the first chapter on the mechanical part of the mechanical scope of the market and the free flow of Article 4 wrote that “all EU member states should not prohibit, restrict or impede third-party organizations authorized by the European Commission reviewed the product in its territory of the market and put into use. “According to EU regulations the contents of the above, third parties authorized by the European Union issued a certificate side effect is very high. And if after the certified products in the course of the quality problem, the EU authorized third party to assume important responsibilities.
